About Paul's Turnings

The magic, mysticism and majesty of trees have inspired wood artist Paul Custis throughout his life. As a boy in Wyoming fashioning bows and arrows, fishing poles and tree forts, and as a husband and father living in the Pacific Northwest creating decorative and useable works, he has always found wood to be a fascinating medium.

Wooden bowls, candleholders, clocks, wishboxes,
fruits, jewelry, barware and desk accessories are
created by using variations in the wood's color, grain
and figuring to preserve the character of the tree.

Bark rims, often with the moss still attached; green turned pieces that further develop as they dry; bark inclusions that allow a play of light; these are ways in which the artist shows you his talent, imagination and quality craftmanship.
